First full week: Limp Dishrag

Picture your poor dishrag sitting at the bottom of your sink after being used for a week.   Picture the dishrag being nauseous.   Picture the white blood cell count of your dishrag taking a nose dive at the end of the week (as expected per progression of chemo.)  Picture the dishrag trying to prop open one eye at a time.   The dishrag is definitely not capable of conversation or answering the phone.   Okay, I think you have the picture now...

The dishrag is also being taken advantage of by her cat, who steals Saltine crackers from her bedside and crunches them on the rug, so that I step on cracker bits in the morning.   The cat is offended when the Saltines go into a ziplock bag.  No sympathy there...

  1. Picture the dishrag wearing bright, bright, bright pink pants and a butterfly scarf. Picture her knowing the inroads and elevators of the cancer center maze. Picture her keeping a daily log of fuel- er, food- ingested and oral treatments. Picture all this getting done while she wages a battle of saltines with her crazed cat, Audrey. Picture her winning the war.

Now picture the tired bones of Judy reassembling themselves and walking up her incredibly steep and scary stairs.

Not bad for a weary cancer fighter. Not bad at all.

Reward her with movies. Lay off the phone calls and conversations. She needs rest, rest, and more rest. Also salty fluids, but no more Trader Joe's mashed spuds.

You've got to admire this dishrag.... Her usual name is Judy. We all send hugs.
